(Warning: This blog is very, VERY political as it’ll mention current events, Trump, death, strong swearing, some depressing things and has me rambling about life. Please take care before reading.)
Last month, I went downstairs to make some dinner when I saw mom talking to my older sister about life. As I was waiting for the potato to be cooked in the microwave, I heard mom said that at the end of September, she’s taking my younger niece and nephew off of her health insurance for some reason (even though they’re not 21 years old, as it’s the cut off age for her health insurance). Then I heard her about switch her and mines’ over (as I’m still on her health insurance thanks to my disability) to something else.
Hmmm…sounds like mom is planning something big.
Later on after I finished dinner, I saw that mom didn’t pick up her mail that I left on the table. So I took it and went to her bedroom, where I asked her what’s going on with her health insurance.
That’s when she told me that after 32 & 1/2 years, she’s going to retire from her government job at the end of September. I was shocked as I thought she wasn’t going to plan to retire for another two years! The reason why I said is because in two years, she’ll be honored for working for the government for 35 years (which is impressive). Not only that, she’ll also be 67 years old, where she can apply to get Social Security and not have to pay a penalty if you apply for it before you turn 67.
Well I thought she was retiring in September. Then just a few days ago, I found out that she’s actually retiring TODAY as she’s turned in her equipment yesterday afternoon! It turns out that she’ll be using her remaining leave time and will be on their payroll UP until the end of September (which is the end of the federal year)!
The reason why she’s retiring now is thanks to our fucking government doing awful things and that Muskrat keep firing all the other federal workers in her field, so mom is forced to do more work than usual. And that she was working in a VERY toxic environment, which did not help either! Then something happened at her job, a week before that caused her to reach a boiling point and decided to say, “Fuck it, I’m LEAVING!”
I knew mom won’t last this long with the 2nd Trump administration slowing making our country both a laughing stock and threatening by becoming Nazi Germany 2.0. I thought it would be Muskrat eliminating her job will cause her to mentally lose it! I guess not since she’ll rather quit than getting laid off.
Funny thing is that I (mostly) stopped paying attention to the news since Trump won his reelection last year for the sake of my mental health. Like, the only time I hear the news is from mom, who sadly has to deal with his bullshit.
But at least she’ll get a nice retirement plaque, where they thank her for her services. /s
Yeah right.
Even before Trump came back this year, there was some in-work drama that she had to deal with (which then cause her to leave because it got too much for her to handle). Even when we were living in Germany, the second time, she had to deal with some in-work drama. Heck, the only reason why she even applied and to go back to work in Germany is to get away from the in-work drama that she had to deal with when we moved to Southern Texas in 2014!
And that her, said original job in Southern Texas, was about to ship her and her co-workers to ALABAMA! Which made mom uncomfortable as the state is still racist (as we’re black) and that she fears for her grandson’s life (who can cause some problems) if he does something wrong over there for no reason.
I feel like the only time she’s happy with her job is when we’re living in Germany, the first time. But there’s probably a chance she was miserable there too and I didn’t know at the time. And that makes me sad.
But still, I knew she was going to retire, but not for another two years. At least she has plenty of money in the bank to help her pay the penalty for applying to Social Security too early. If Social Security is STILL AROUND as there’s rumors that Muskrat is thinking about getting rid that too!
Sigh…
At least I know that once she retired, she’s planning to sell the house and move up north as she’s sick and tired living in Texas. Where they rather care about guns than human rights and that think transgenders are going to get our children, so they have to ban actual transgenders from transitioning! That me and my nieces can’t get an abortion because the state is VERY pro-life as it’s banned. Like they’re so pro-life, they’ll even try to arrest you if you sneak out of the state to get an abortion! And don’t get me started about race as they hate anyone who isn’t a white and will do anything to put us either in JAIL or even KILL US!
To make matter worst, the Republicans has been in full control of the state government for over 30 years! Like no matter how many times I vote Democrat whenever there’s the state elections (which happens every four years), the Republicans will always win! Same thing with the US Senate, the Republicans will easily win that too! At least I can win with the US House of Rep. as where I live, it’s heavily Democratic. /s
It’s bad to the point I feel like sitting out of next year’s Midterm/state election because I feel like my vote won’t matter anyways as I’m a black, bisexual and autistic woman. Especially after what happened in last year’s election and that according to mom and some of the left-leaning folks on the Internet, the Republicans will RIG IT in their favor! If there’s going to be a Midterm at ALL if Trump and his followers has their ways…
But I’ll laugh if in our last year living in Texas; will be the year that the Democrats finally win the state elections! Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to happen in my lifetime! At least they can try…
However the only “good” thing about living in Texas is that my family lives in one of the few liberal cities in Texas, where at least our rights are respected. For now, that is… And we like the culture and the food there (as majority of the population are Hispanic) as we’re only a few hours away from the border of Mexico. Hopefully since she’s retired, we can maybe go see the Alamo and ride the boat on the Riverwalk in San Antonio (as we live somewhere near the city) before we go.
Still, it’s going to be weird that my mom isn’t working anymore. Like for my entire life, she has a job. Even when we move countries, she always has a job.
The only time she wasn’t working at her job is when she had to get cancer treatment when I was 12 years old. I remember that she had to do chemotherapy twice and that me and my oldest niece had to stay with some of our relatives and family friends for the time being due to show much radiation she had to take. It also didn’t help that she had to do this by herself as she can’t rely on daddy to help.
Why?
That’s because on the day she got her cancer diagnosis, it was the SAME DAY that he died! Thankfully unlike daddy, mom actually took her health seriously. Now imagination what would happen if she didn’t get treated for cancer. She would’ve died at least six months later and I would’ve become an orphan! Talk about me becoming traumatized for life!
As for those who are wondering where would my family go now my mom doesn’t have a reason to stay in Texas anymore. She told me that we’ll be moving for Vermont as it’s one of the most progressive states in the country! Originally I mention before that we might be moving to Oregon after she retires. But their high taxes and that there’s pro-Trump supporters in the country side, has scared her off from moving there!
Yeah, Vermont has high taxes too. But at least the state can respect our personal rights and not have to worry about getting arrested. Mainly because the Democrats mostly control the state government, that most of their US House of Rep. are Democrats, that one of their US Senators is a Democrat and the other one is Bernie Sanders, aka, one of the TRUE left-leaning politicians in our American government (as international people thinks the Democrats are actually RIGHT-LEANING and that the Republicans are FAR-RIGHT, which makes me very sad that they might be right)! And that the state hasn’t elected a Republican president since the 90s’!
However the downside is that the Republicans are starting to grow in the state Congress and that Vermont has a Republican governor. But their governor is one of the few liberal/moderate Republicans in the country! I said that because he supports same-sex marriage, is pro-choice and is one of the few anti-Trump Republicans that are STILL in office, that I can think of (because the rest were voted out by their voters for betraying their “man”)!
It was because of what I mention above, mom feel safer living in Vermont compared to living in Texas. But the kicker is that we won’t move until 2027. Why? That’s because mom wants to spend the rest of this and next year, fixing the house, so she can sell it. And hopefully find a place to live somewhere in Vermont.
And in case a civil war breaks out in the States, we can flee to Canada as it’s only a few hours away from Vermont and that we both have passports! But the downside is that, we’ll be in Quebec. I said that because Quebec is a heavily French speaking providence and that me and mom don’t know a lick of French! But I know Montreal is one of the few English speaking cities (and the largest) in Quebec, so we might be fine.
As for my older sister and her kids, they’re going to (sadly) stay in Texas because my sister has been (successfully) dating a divorce, weeb father for almost a year and is planning to move in with him next year (assuming they’re still together as my sister is known for failed relationships due to not wanting to deal with her exes’ bullshit and their toxically). And that he’s not allowed to move out of the state due to custody orders (as he and his ex-wife have two preteen kids).
I also know that she wants to stay close as my eldest niece currently lives on the other side of the city with her boyfriend, their two big dogs and their pet snake. Don’t know about her other two (mostly) adult children thought. Something might work out for them at the end.
Still, it’ll be nice to finally leave Texas at long last. Where I don’t have to live in the 100 degree weather for half of the year and fear for my life because of my race and gender! The downside is that I’ll have to deal with the cold weather and snow again! Fortunately, I grew up in Ohio and lived in Germany for almost eight years, so I’m used to it.
So now if you’re wondering why I’ll go radio silence somewhere in 2027 (if I’m still maintaining this site that is), this blog explains it as I might not have Internet on my laptop for a while. But I’ll access the site thought my iPhone whenever I can.
Before I go, I want to say a big FUCK YOU to Trump and his administration for driving my mother and the (mostly) harmless federal government workers away from their jobs! Thanks to YOU, at least 50,000 (or more) government workers have quit their jobs in the past four months! Not only for the sake of their mental health, but that they don’t want to work with the orange Fuehrer who wants to turn America into Nazi Germany 2.0! And if they didn’t quit by now, you’ll lay them off anyways! So you can save the government “money” (which will be exact opposite of) and replace them with your BROWN SHIRT SUPPORTERS!!!
Funny thing is that I would’ve been working in the federal government by now if I did. But thanks to YOU, I don’t want to work there anymore! Even when a Democrat takes control of the White House in the future, I think it’ll be a LONG TIME until anyone feels comfortable working for the federal government AGAIN!
Like, if I really want to work for the government, I better stick with either state or local government. Where at least they’ll (mostly depending what political party they’re in) respect their workers and won’t screw them over, like you did with the federal government. I know I might get lucky in Vermont when it comes to looking for a (possible) government job there.
Hopefully my new life in Vermont will be better than when I was living in Texas and maybe what the fuck is going on in Washington D.C…
